 Collection
Identifier: BLA-2020-001

Scope and Contents

The collection comprises of a variety of materials collected or created by Dr. Weaver in her research pursuits for writing The Community’s College: The Remarkable Journey of Hagerstown Community College, 1946-2012. Materials in this collection include: hand written notes with quotes, facts, and general information about HCC through the years; general correspondence and emails; event brochures; interviews with faculty, staff, students, and alumni; draft copies and outlines of the book and its chapters; committee notes and agendas; and various photocopies of newspaper articles, reports, and studies. While the photocopied materials in this collection were originally published between the early 1940s through 2012, they were photocopied during the time that Dr. Weaver was researching for her book, between 2000 and 2013. The date range of this collection will reflect both of these time periods. Two series are proposed for this collection. The first will be Chapter Resources. This series will include all materials that have been marked for specific chapters, such as notes, interviews, correspondence, facts, and quotes. Materials will be arranged by the chapters of the book, and chronologically by the timeline the chapters cover. The second series, Research and Advisory Materials, will include the items that are not specific to a chapter, but to the overall creation of the book, and the materials created during the advising process. Three subseries will include: Advisory Council, Quotes and Interviews, and Facts and Statistics.

Administrative History

The materials found in this collection comprise the many years Dr. Weaver dedicated to compiling and writing a history of Hagerstown Community College. Following the college’s development from its beginnings in 1946 through the year 2012, Dr. Weaver’s book provides an in-depth look at the college, its students, faculty and staff. Over the course of several years, Dr. Weaver compiled information from previous histories, newspaper articles, college documents, oral history interviews, and email correspondence in order to portray as accurate as possible the history and development of Hagerstown Community College. Previously an instructor at HCC, Dr. Weaver’s completed history book now offers the most comprehensive background of HCC.
